Changes to all Wikispaces themes

On (or shortly after) January 3, 2012, we will be making some small changes to the way some of the elements of the Wikispaces interface look. These changes will affect all Wikispaces wikis — and we hope you like the improvements.

The first change is that the page title and row of tabs you’re used to seeing at the top of each page will be moving down into the page itself. The second is that the global navigation elements (your username, My Wikis, messages, etc.) will be getting a new, more modern style.

So if you are using our popular Tatami theme, the changes will look like this (click on each thumbnail to see a larger version):

None of this will change the way your wikis work, just the way they look. It’s the first phase of some larger improvements that will let us improve the speed of Wikispaces, build a more modern user interface, and build some great new features.

In most cases, you do not need to do anything. If you’re using one of our premade themes, or have only made minor changes (such as changing colors or adding a custom banner to the top of the theme), it’s likely your theme will continue to work just fine.

If, however, you have made substantial layout changes — in particular if you have added or altered the tabs in your theme, or are using Javascript or CSS to hide parts of your theme — you may need to make additional changes to maintain the look and feel you want. If you have any questions or concerns about these changes, please contact us at

Hi, I have three wikis but I can only see the updated version in two of them.Since last couple of days members can´t edit any pages. Besides some wiki members complaint that of late they can´t view highlighted changes in history. Please let me know what the problem is.

I’m not a fan of the removal of tabs for “Page”, “Discussion”, etc. I also don’t care for the page title being so large at the top. The wiki membership message that constantly appears to nonmembers is a bit irritating.

    I still love Wikispaces.
I do like the global navigation elements being hidden now.

still think we should design our personal pages ourselves that would be AWESOME!!!

@Amy The membership banner is something we’re looking at. It was part of a separate change in December and we have gotten the message loud and clear that it’s a bit too prominent, especially on wikis that aren’t really looking for more members. We’re on it.

My ‘all pages’ button seems to have disappeared from the menu on the left, so students have no way to access their pages

@Matt Nothing to do with this rollout — someone deleted your wiki’s navigation. Visit, click on the date of the revision you want to go back to, and click ‘revert to this version’.

I am not very happy with the new changes wikispaces have made to the actual page ( I do like the new modern look though). In the older version I removed the page title and star in the corner of the main page so that it was all my own design. Now it is back and I cannot seem to remove it…The page titles are big and clash with my design.

How can I hide the star and page title in the corner? Is there new css to do this? I received the code before from wikispaces…

I would like to see a different message appear when I go to my wikis- – right now, “you are not a member” is the message I get, and I’m afraid some of my students will not know what to do. The “sign in” button is very small and up in the corner.
I think the big message should say: “Please sign in, OR, if you are not a member, etc…”
ALSO, THANK YOU for providing K-12 educator wikis—!!!!

I agree with Renaud. I previously made changes to both the look (making the page menu titles bolder and all caps) and the function of my pages (e.g., not allowing students access to revisions), all for instructional reasons, and those were all changed by your global revisions. My coding changes are still all there in the Theme but your 2012 changes overrode them. PLEASE give us options to change it back!
