Manage Your Wiki Members in Bulk

You can say good-bye to the hassle of removing one member from your wiki at a time. Wikispaces now allows you to administer members on your wiki in bulk!

As an educator preparing for the new semester, you can easily remove your previous students from your wiki before adding new students. Or as the organizer of a growing wiki, you can quickly promote a new round of organizers to help you manage your work.

You can now take advantage of bulk management when:

  • Removing members from your wiki
  • Promoting or demoting members or organizers on your wiki
  • Approving pending membership requests

To use these new features, log in as your wiki’s organizer, go to “Manage Wiki” and then to your “Members” page.

Is there a way to register students to wikispaces without having to go through administration at my school? The task seems to daunting a job for them, when they have to assign password and user name for each student. I’d like students to discuss topics sooner than later.
Curiousity has got me. Our district uses schoolwires, and I can’t set up the discussion, and comment section as easy as wikispaces. Thanks.

    GREAT feature!

Could you do the same for managing wikis? Each semester students make their own wiki and then I have to delete them one by one.

    That would be MARVELOUS!

I used it just yesterday! A great tool, it made deleting graduated students very easy.
A suggestion, it still works page by page, cannot mark them all at once. Thank you.

    Hi Steve,

You should be able to create accounts for all of your students, without e-mail addresses, by going to your wiki, selecting Manage Wiki, and selecting the User Creator icon. If you don’t see that icon on your wiki please send us your username and a link to your wiki at help@wikispaces.com

    Cheers,
    Debbie

    Hi Donna,

Thank you for the feedback. We are always looking for ways to improve Wikispaces. You might be interested in Wikispaces Private Label for your school. You can create and administer an unlimited number of wikis on your site; including deleting wikis in bulk. You can find more information at: http://www.wikispaces.com/site/privatelabel/k-12

    Hi,
How can I check the email of the members I have invited-created to the school wiki??
It seems that I have had a mistake with one of the teachers and her email.
I am trying to create a new member, but it says that this member and the email has already been created, (which is not true, at least in my wiki!!)
Now, I can’t check their emails to solve this problem, I just can remove all of them and create again. I would prefer to look for another option…………..

    Thanks for your time.

I just deleted all of the students in bulk…and now I cannot access my wiki. I do NOT want to upload all of those files again.

    What’s going on?

    My wiki is at goetzmath.wikispaces.com

I have just been giving my little student the site in order to use my wiki. They don’t have emails.

Is there a way to move users from one wiki to another without having to manually type them? I want them to be able to use both wikis. The list of users will not copy, so I can’t simply paste them.

    Your cooperation will be appreciated.

    Hi Fran Jiménez,

It is against our privacy policy to give out our user’s e-mail addresses: http://www.wikispaces.com/privacy However if you send us the addresses that are giving you trouble we can let you know if an account has already been created on Wikispaces using the e-mail address. You can send the list to help@wikispaces.com

    Hi Jan South,

If you have a list of usernames you can go to the second wiki, select Manage Wiki, select Invite People, paste in the list of usernames, and press Send. After you press Send the users just need to accept the invitations.

    Cheers,
    Debbie

How can I have my wiki in spanish. This wiki is for free? How long can I use it without charge?

  17. Posted February 17, 2010 at 10:56 am | Permalink

HI EVERYONE, THIS IS MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH A WIKI. i’VE CREATED MY WIKI FOR OUR SCHOOL, IN eGYPT, TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE TEACHERS TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR THE COMING SEMESTER, ASSIGNMENTS, SCIENCE PROJECTS FOR THE PRIMARY GRDE LEVELS ETC.. ALL THE COMMENTS I’VE READ HAVE GIVEN ME COURAGE TO CONTINUE. I’M NOT THAT GOOD WITH TECHNOLOGY. I GUESS I’VE STOPPED USING ANYTHING OTHER THAN EMAILS, AND THIS IS QUITE RECENTLY. I NEED THE EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE OF OTHER EDUCATOR TO GUIDE ME.

    Hi adrianagonigodoy,

You can set your wiki’s interface to Spanish by signing into your account, selecting My Account on the upper-right hand corner, scrolling down to Your Settings, changing the language to Spanish, and pressing Save.

You can also create pages on your wiki in any language.

K-12 wikis are free, they do not expire.

    Cheers,
    Debbie

Is it possible to use another educator’s wiki as a template? Are there pre-existing templates already in place?

Teachers are always pressed for time, so any shortcuts are appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi David P.,

No, there are not already existing templates in place. However, you can find lots of great example educator wikis here: http://educationalwikis.wikispaces.com/ We can also copy a wiki, that you have created or have permission to copy, to a new URL for you so that you can add new information and change it for your needs.

    Cheers,
    Debbie
