wikispaces

This blog post is for IT / network administrators. If that doesn’t ring a bell or you’re not sure what an IP address is, you can completely ignore this post!

On August 14th, we’ll be updating the IP addresses for Wikispaces.com. For the vast majority of you, this change will be completely invisible, but if you’re a IT / network administrator or manage your firewall or site blocking software, read on:

On Friday, August 14 at 5 PM PDT (what’s that in my timezone?), we’ll be adding an IP address to wikispaces.com and *.wikispaces.com. The updated addresses will be:

75.126.104.177
208.43.192.33

Note: this change does not affect Private Label customers, only sites on Wikispaces.com.

So if you’re explicitly allowing traffic to Wikispaces by our IP address, please update your rules by August 14th. If you have any questions, please let us know at help@wikispaces.com.

I am receiving the following pop-up on my home computer and am unable to stop its recurrence. Please advise as to what action I could take…

To update the RSS feed “https://isuedad.wikispaces.com/page/xml/home?v=rss_2_0″, you need to log in to the area “Wikispaces” on isuedad.wikispaces.com. Your password will be sent in clear text.

    Hi Gary,

Ok, this is something that can happen on Macs using Safari. You see that pop-up because Safari is set to subscribe to the RSS feed. Another user let us know that a recent upgrade to Safari enables the username and password option in a subscription. This is the option that is causing you to see the pop-up. We provide you with URLs for the RSS feeds on your wiki on the Recent Changes page using the Notify Me tab that do not need usernames and passwords. Can you find an area in Safari to check your RSS subscriptions? If you can you should try setting the subscription to not use a username and password or delete the current subscription and create a new one using the RSS URLs mentioned above.

    Cheers,
    Debbie
