Wikispaces Birthday Week: Editor Redux
March 23rd, 2009 by Dom
To cap off our birthday week, we’re going to tell you about something that’s coming very soon: a faster, friendlier, and better-looking editor. Here’s what’s in store:

The first thing you’ll notice is the toolbar has gotten a makeover. We’ve revised the button images and tightened up the spacing and layout of the toolbar.
But that’s small potatoes. Click on one of the tools, and you’ll see that all of the popup windows have been redesigned:
The image tool has got a new layout, including tabs for the major functions.
The link popup is slimmed down and designed to be more clear when working with internal vs. external links.
The widget tool, special character insertion tool, and the table creator have also been updated to match.
Finally, we’ve worked hard on the internals of the editor to make it faster than ever. Pages will download faster and the editor will pop up more quickly when you press the “Edit” button.
Watch here for news on when you’ll see these changes live on Wikispaces.com and your Private Label sites!

How do we get this Fancy stuff!
pie100,
We’ll be releasing these changes soon. Keep an eye on our blog for information about when you’ll find the improved editor live.
Best,
Sarah
More speed, cleaner interface, slicker themes… and I don’t have to do anything to receive the upgrade because it’s a hosted service!
A few more things to cross off my wishlist, and more proof that our institution’s choice of Wikispaces was the right move. It’s great to see that Wikispaces is serious about taking on its competition, and improving its product.
I already upload many files in my wikispaces. How to make a folder to organize all the files?
How can we use it ?
Julie,
We don’t currently have a way to organize files with folders. However, improving file management is high on our list of things to do. Keep an eye on our blog for more information about future features.
Best,
Sarah
almakhalas,
Our new editor tools will be coming soon. We’ll be announcing their release on our blog shortly.
Best,
Sarah
I Want this stuff!!!!!!!
idk, why i have an account
Can I make a plea to keep it accessible? I know some web designers get carried away with scripting and spiralling dancing buttons and goodness knows what, but none of that is any good for those of us who use assistive technology. I access the web with a screen reader (text-to-speech software), and for that to work, there has to be text in the first place.
Are you testing the new design with assistive tech? Wikispaces has been so easy to use up to now, hope it stays that way.
The BAT!
Yufal,
Send us an e-mail at help@wikispaces.com and we will help sort out any account issues you have.
Sarah
vip-uc,
We haven’t done any testing with assistive technology yet, but are interested in keeping Wikispaces as easy to use for everyone. If you send an e-mail to help@wikispaces.com letting us know the types of things that are important to you, we will look into what we can do.
Sarah
I think the redesigned editor is great, however you still haven’t included a button! Such a great feature that is practically out of reach for most site users.
ADD A BUTTON!
