Mercyhurst College Wiki Survey

If you’re interested in helping out a project that is studying wiki use, consider taking this short survey. From the team:

“Hello, we are students at Mercyhurst College and we are working on a project to identify trends in the uses of wikis as well as the users of wikis. Our purpose is to identify important trends or issues that can help make wikis more acceptable, accessible, and valuable. We would appreciate you taking a couple of minutes of your time to answer a quick survey in order to help us with our research. We appreciate all the information you can provide us, and this information will only be used for this project. We look forward to your responses, and thank you for your help in our research.

To take the survey:

We are using the wikispaces private label option with adult students in he Adult and Community Education sector. We generally use them in a blended way with face-to-face classes but I have also run an entirely online unit using wikispaces. We also have a tutor support wiki and our main website is now a wiki as they are so easy to update because not many people in our House know html or how to create web pages.

The survey page says the survey is closed, but as the theme is interesting anyway:

I belong to an informal group of people interested in collaborative translation, and wikis are an obvious tool for that, so we have one, as well as a social network and a Diigo social bookmarking group.

Concretely, I have used a private wiki or a wiki-like Google docs page for translations where several translators collaborators – or where the authors didn’t yet have a final version of their text yet were in a big hurry.

First, I love the idea of your survey and I really wanted to participate. When I opened the survey link (31/10/2008 – 2:56 P.M GMT +2) I was informed that the survey is currently closed. I just received the email from wikispaces and I wanted to participate.

It is ok if the survey is closed, but if it is not, I am willing to participate again.

    Good Luck

Would love to help you out by taking the survey. I’ve just started using the wikispace this year with my AP Language and Composition class. However, as others note, the survey is now closed. Please let me know when and if you’ll open it again.

    Thanks – Sandy

Yup! some survey monkey has put a spanner in the works.

Anyway, just briefly, I use wikispaces to share my experiences with interested people in different countries.

I like wikispaces because it is easy to use.

The survey is “currently closed” as these other users pointed out, but I actually came to take it because I love Mercyhurst and it’s beautiful campus. I was at PGSA this summer, and Mercyhust is my home away from home at this point. Best of luck with the project.

Same as above the survey link is closed.
I have three interlinked wikis for my secondary Design & Technology students which I started a year ago. Primarily it is used as a teaching aid, coursework and support material, students can access all the materials used during the lessons this was the original idea and reason for setting up the wikis, it seemed a shame to create presentations and show links to sites if students couldn’t access them after the lesson was finished!!. Since then I keep adding to the sites as we develop new curriculum materials, and I also include work from students as they are working and of their finished products. The site is public and only I and my department have access, (untill now I am the only person who is adding material) but I know the site is accessed by many other schools around the world – I’m quite proud of that.

Says it is closed here too, guess I won’t take the survey. Maybe that is the survey. Who will post that they tried to fill out the survey.

The name I’ve left here is my Wikispaces name, so you can find me easily! A group of friends and I who know each other through an Eragon fanfiction writing site decided to try our hand at writing a group story. Our Wikispace ( is for us to help edit the chapters- one chapter per page. The members of the story opened accounts, so we all can share in editing (or “beta-ing”, as we call it!) each chapter.

The wiki has been incredibly useful to us for this purpose, as we can post the story for all members to see, allow any member to edit it, and quickly see what changes have been made (and who did them!) by the history feature. It’s a different use than most wikis, which seem to primarily organize information, but it works perfectly.
