Wikispaces: Under the Hood

server4-small.jpgWe’re often asked about what’s “under the hood” of Wikispaces, the infrastructure the site runs on. Do we use dedicated servers? Are wiki pages and files backed up, and how often? If the site breaks, does someone get notified? How much bandwidth do you have?

To help answer these questions and more, we’ll be writing a series of “Under the Hood” articles over the next few weeks that tell you more about our technology and infrastructure. Here’s a taste of what we’ll cover:

  • Servers – the cluster of more than 20 servers that keeps Wikispaces humming
  • Backups – redundant file storage in addition to real-time multi-location encrypted backups
  • Reliability – keeping the service running non-stop (99.99% uptime over the past year!)
  • Speed – serving content to you quickly, including our global content delivery network (CDN)
  • Software – the amazing suite of open-source software our service is built on

Insanely user friendly and easy to navigate. Make the html editable for those who can, and you’ll have yourself a very nice application here.

    Thanks,
