What’s Under The Hood?
March 5th, 2007 by James
Last week, we talked with James Gray of Linux Journal who wondered what kind of software we used to power Wikispaces. We told him about the underpinnings of Wikispaces and that, in fact, our infrastructure is entirely based on Linux and Open Source software. The full text of the interview is available here:

Here’s the quick rundown on what you’ll find under the hood at Wikispaces:
- web serving: lighttpd, PHP, lvs
- database: MySQL
- caching and file storage: memcached, MogileFS
- search: Lucene
- mail: Postfix
We’re thankful for these and and dozens of other packages we rely on. Wikispaces simply would not be possible without them.

Just like a car - means nothing to me but keep up the good work - I just want to use it!
bueno esto me parece un poco complicado ya que se me hizo un poco dificil porque aparte de que era en ingles no se mucho de computacion pero es importante aprender todas estas cosas ya que hacen muchisima falta
this wikispace site is so flippin sweet
The important things to me are that it works, that it is simple and that it empowers those that wish to work with me.
Thankyou for your service, it’s brilliant.
I think it is very helpful for all of us,and I want to say just keep it up.
Interesting comment, and yet isn’t the most significant question left unanswered? What flavor of wiki software powers wikispaces?
It’s our own custom wiki software.
Yes Yes and in deed this Wiki thing is wonderful…. But I find it hard to believe that I’m the only one pushing this software to the edge.
I asked for help with a Calendar from web pasties. The response went something like I could fix it with HTML. I don’t want to ever have to learn HTML.
Would like to get notified of discussions, both options, My Yahoo and Live Bookmarks links won’t work…….
Hello
Sorry for the bad news.
