James Byers was recently a guest on the Kojo Nnamdi radio show. The show was a good discussion about the value of Wikipedia and the broad importance of wikis as tools.
Kojo selected his guests well (Ben Bederson, Alex Halavais, and Kat Walsh, along with James) which resulted in a smart and sensible discussion of issues such as whether Wikipedia should be used in the classroom and how to make group generated content work.
It’s good to be able to talk about what we do but it’s great to do so as part of an intelligent discussion.

Alex Halavais actually is my academic advisor and it’s interesting that the interview came at this time, because I am about to present an “Introduction to Wikis” workshop to faculty members of the University at Buffalo.
Here’s the kicker: Of all the wiki services I’ve tested, I’m having teachers & fellow researchers signup for Wikispaces!
It’s neat that you guys appeared on Kojo’s show and I’ve enjoyed using your service so much, I’m having more people sign up with you guys tomorrow!
Two more things:
- My blog post on Kojo (podcast included)
- My theory.wikispaces.com lecture wiki!
Did you guys remove the ads from my wikispace? I didn’t pay anything but it’s nice that it’s not there
Nice, he did very well!
Kevin,
Great to hear about your workshop and that Wikispaces is working out for you. Keep in touch and let us know how things go.
