Free Wikispaces for Teachers

Over the last few months, some of the most gratifying feedback we’ve received has been from teachers telling us how valuable Wikispaces has been to them. Some of the teachers we’ve been talking to are clearly pretty special. They would do great things with or without online tools but it’s also clear that we can help.

At Wikispaces we believe in simple tools that are easy to adopt and use. Teachers have been telling us that there is great value in tools that allow students to easily work together and contribute to class. And they love tools that help them monitor and interact with students as they work.

Teachers are important and we want to help them. That’s why we’re making Wikispaces free, and advertising free, for use in K-12 education.

Try it out or learn more now. Getting started takes about 30 seconds.

“I have used countless technological tools — but I have never found a tool so useful in the educational process.” – Vicki Davis, Westwood Schools

“Wikispaces has been great so far. It is an amazing thing to learn through community building activities in an online environment that encourages the free exchange of ideas and emphasizes high level, clear communication and critical thinking.” – David Conlay, Estancia High School

“There is just nothing out there that is so simple to use! [...] It’s definitely the best wiki-hosting solution that we’ve come across, both for its simplicity and its style!” – Leigh Blackall, Blended Learning

Wikispaces is great! It is vital that students are able to access their wikis from home! When you install it on your server at school it is just that — a school project.

When you use wikispaces it is more — it is part of their life!

I am a teacher at West Hawaii Explorations Academy (whea.net), managing empcs.wikispaces.net. There’s not much activity right now, but I’m encouraging my students to add their sources to the database.

Is there any way to convert a regular wikispace into the education version?

    neuage,

Looks like a really nice space and it’s very cool to see how many contributors you have working on it.

How those of us toiling away at community colleges? We could use the help too!

Keep in mind that anyone, at a community college or otherwise, can get a free public wikispace with advertising or a private space for $5 a month or $50 a year.

That being said, anyone who needs our help should drop us a note at help@wikispaces.com. We’re always happy to help where we can.

Wikispaces is a great way to communicate with students outside of the classroom. It is fun and easy for both the teacher and the students to discuss homework assignments and classroom materials.
