Great strides toward simplicity

Today we released a major update to Wikispaces. We focus on making Wikispaces really easy to use so we’ve taken those parts of the site that our members have told us are clunky, and made them simpler.

But that doesn’t really get across the coolness of what the team has put together so let me give you some detail:

A completely new and more powerful visual (WYSIWYG) editor
It loads instantly, lets you do more than you could before, and co-exists with the advanced features of our wikitext much more happily. You can be very confident now that what you see is really what you’ll get and that what you expect to happen will actually happen.

Easy creation and management of links
Creating and editing links is now much easier. This is important because links are one of those concepts that aren’t obvious to many people. Try creating a link to see what we mean (use the little icon that looks like a globe with a chain link on it). We think it’s intuitive and simple. That’s what we’re aiming for.

Easy handling of images
Click on the image icon in the editor (the little box with the tree in it) and you’ll see the new image handler. You can upload images easily and double click them to insert them into your page. Much easier, much cooler. And you can resize images on the page as well.

Upload any type of file
The image handler is also the file handler. Upload any type of file and double click to insert it on the page. You’ll get an appropriate icon and the file name for easy file sharing. And we virus check your files to make sure they’re safe.

There’s much more of course. Make sure to check our complete list of changes, our December 2005 Update, and the site itself for more info.

If you need a public, protected, or private hosted wiki, check us out. And as always, let us know what you think.
